To-30 1954... What is the correct color for the standard rims? I seem to recall that our 1952 TO-30 had silver, but it also had the slide adjustment rims and they may have been different... Any one know for sure? Jim

The tractors were ALL grey, that type of wheel was made for the later tractors and would have been painted silver like you say. That wheel type is not shown in the parts list or the options for that tractor model, it would appear that they were fitted later.

Hi John.. Thanks for you response. Glad to see you back! :)

I don't remember all that well anymore, but as I recall, (in Feb 1952 as confirmed by tax records), my father bought me (9 years old!) the TO-30. It came from the dealer with the slide adjustable rims and a "Monroematic"(sp)spring/shock seat. So if they were not "factory" options, they must have been "dealer options". I know Ford offered the same seat also (as an option)

Thanks for that Jim. You are only a little bit younger than me (3) I had to do a search on that one, the silver wheels got me, I was thinking they were fitted much later perhaps from a 135 but if it was delivered like that it sounds like it was a dealer option as you say,perhaps they made them for fitting the Ford and that is how it came about. I have seen that seat you talk of, it was an extra for the Ford and I have seen it since fitted to the French built TEA20 (FF30GS) it was exactly the same. I have never seen or heard of that type of wheel on a 20 series before but as you know anything can happen.

Well, I have researched this color subject for the Detroit built tractors and have come to the conclusion they were "Silver" and I am told this was due to a zinc plate used. Looking at all the videos(movies in those days) of the factory and demonstrations made by Ferguson Inc shows the rims to be a silver color. This also shows up in the brochures and sales literature as well. Also discussions with people involved with dealerships and/or extensive Ferguson farming knowedge remember the rims as silver. My restored TO30 had silver rims after cleaning up the rust and crud.
But I do think the English tractors were gray, but John knows that better than anyone I guess.

Actually Phil I have always been told that they were Grey, so I do find this interesting. I have just bought a new book with all the tractors and implements and that shows TO30's with painted wheels, standard types not power adjust.
That type of wheel I looked into and again I could not find it either supplied by the factory as an extra or as an option, so if you have any more info about this I would be glad to know about it. John

Hi Phil.. Thanks!!! I was pretty sure I remember silver on that '52 TO-30 (actually '51 by serial number). But as I said, it had the slide adjustable width rails on the rims. I was going to put the standard 6 loop rims on it (just because I am cheap) and was going to paint it silver anyway to match what I remember. But, glad to find that it is actually correct..
