Briefly, I recently had some problems with my TO-20 stuttering and quitting after maybe 15 minutes of running. I took the advice I read on this list only after having the carb rebuilt and I tested the ignition switch (ok), the coil ( had 12 volts at the coil), the condensor(put in a new one) regapped the points at .022. I rewired the tractor and that seemed to take care of the problem. Yesterday, I decided to do a little bush hogging around the corn field and the tractor starting coughing and did after maybe 15 minutes of running. Today I rechecked the electrical components and I am satisfied they are ok. I disconnected the fuel line at the carb and I had good flow from the tank. I then hooked the fuel back to the carb and took off the drain plug in the bottom of the carb and I had good flow there as well. I reset all the screws to the specs in the I&T manual and still nothing. I then sprayed starter fluid into the carb and it started right up but would only run as long as I fed it the starter spray. What would you folks think should be my next step. I am considering taking the carb apart but with all the indications I've mentioned, why would I not be getting any gas?

Well guys I tried the paper clip out the coil wire test and saw a nice blue spark that actually made sharp arc sounds when held near ground...so I took the carb apart and cleaned out everything particularly the jets and all the little holes etc., put it back together, cranked it and it runs puurrrrrfect. I took a couple of laps around the corn field just to test it out a little. Well it"s ok for today and hopefully for some time. Thank you for your help guys

On my TO 20 when it starts to act like yours I criss cross 2 plugs wires to get it to backfire thru the carb and this fixes it right up till next time .I will cross 1 and 3 or 3 and 4 wires. Nothing wrong with taking the carb. apart tho but usually I have trouble when away from the shop .

Check your spark first. It's easier than pulling the carb and if that's where the problem is at you'll solve it quicker. Pull the center wire that comes from the coilout of the distributor, put a paper clip or bent wire in the boot, hold it an eighth of an inch from a good ground, turn on the key and crank over the starter. You should have a fat bluish spark. If it's orangey or yellowish, your ignition is the problem. If not, go on to the carb. (You said you had 12 V at the coil. Do you have a genuine 12V coil?)
When you pulled the plug from the bottom of the carb, did you let the fuel run for at least 30 seconds? If you did and got the results you quoted, you have an adequate fuel supply. Checck the vent hole in the fuel cap to make sure that it's not plugged. Your float valve could be malfunctioning, you could have a stuck float, or a clogged float passage. Rap the carb with a piece of wood sharply. That sometimes releases a stuck float. Let us know what you find.

Float bowl full of fuel doesn"t guarantee gas is getting through jets. Reckon you"ve got a blocked main jet.
