Stuck in 3rd gear

I have a Massey Ferguson 231 , 94 year , which I got stuck in 3rd gear. The hi/lo shifter still works, but the main shifter won`t. Can anyone advise me.

The transmission has a filler cap just to the left of the shifter, not much room to see what you`re doing. How difficult would it be to remove the shift stick, and go thru there?

Hi...and welcome to the world of Massy.....I to have the same problem although my tractor is a 1959 MF 50... It was working just fine and the transmission just got stuck in third gear! It also doesnt affect the high-low range but one interesting thing the tractor would not start until both trans were in nuetral...now only the range shifter needs to be in nuetral???

Send any advice as soon as you can...my wife doesn't know I broke it and she'll kill me!!!

Remove the oil filler plug and using a long screwdriver or thin bar, get all the selectors at the top into line, you may have to get the lever into one of the selectors first before you do that. Obviously some wear in the selectors now so don't be as rough with the gear changing and it will be fine. Once you have done this it will be easier next time it happens. Make sure that the clutch adjustment is correct and that there is no drag as this can cause it.
