I recently had my starter re-built on my TO-30 and was wondering if there are any tricks or issues I should know about before re-installing.

no special tricks ,just have your shim ready if it had one ,a little oil on the threads of the bolts wont hurt and i keep a center punch handy to line up the centers, Most important thing dont overtighten the battery connection nut and dont let the bolt itself turn, like i did one time
good luck

Not sure what you mean by shims, did not see anything matching that description when I removed it.Could you please clarify how shims relate to this process? Thanks.

if you didnt have them when you took it off dont worry about shims ,on two of mine the starters are shimmed between the starter and the body of the tractor giving extra clearence between pinion and the ring gear
good luck
