My TO30 developed a high pressure leak from under the right front side of the seat. It is less than a sixteen inch stream and with enough pressure it might draw blood from your palm. I suspect the cover plate gasket failed. My question: What caused it? I think it happened when I was lifting a very heavy load. Can I expect the change of gaskets to fix it?

John, danct, and Little Dave,
Thanks for your quick replies. I will be a bit longer in letting you know how I have done. I am putting new sleeves and pistons in the engine. Then comes the hydraulics gasket. (I will check on the relief valve as well.)
Good tractoring!
TC

It is the top cover gasket as you suspect that has blown, usual cause of this is that the setscrews are slack due to gasket settling. They should be checked periodically. Before removing the top cover you will need to detach the control valve from the control fork or you will break it. When you fit the new gasket use a little gasket cement just around the area of the HP pipe. lube all setscrews before refitting them so they wont stick as you tighten them and tighten to 55 - 60 lbs ft. Only remove the setscrews around the edge do not touch the ones in the centre of the cover. If you need step by step information on how to do this, email me at:- fergusontractors at tiscali dot co dot uk and I will send the info and pictures to you.

you will have to check up on why the gasket failed in the first place ,maybe a defective relief valve ,there is a lot of information in the archives and look up Zane Sherman in the Ford 8n and 9n discussion board,he is great on hydraulics
let us know how you do

Charley a gasket should fix it. The high pressure line comes up from the pump through the gasket to the lift arm cover plate. Dave
