I have a '58 TO-35 with a 23C Standard 4 cyl diesel and am replacing the fuel sediment bowl. The compression fitting that exits the bowl assembly is leaking and I want to replace it, but I can not find what type of fitting it is. One hardware person said it was an inverse flare metric fitting, but I can not find anything that looks like it. Does anyone know of currently available fittings that are compatible with the original equipment fittings? Thanks

Dennis,
I've never worked on a diesel 35 so I'm no expert, but I don't like to see posts with no response... so I'll throw in my 2 cents.

I have never heard of an "inverse metric fitting"...I'm not so sure such a thing even exists. I know on the gas model TO-20s & 30's, I have sucessfully replaced the steel fuel line to the gas bowl using steel brake line. There are a couple different diameters, take your line with you if you go to an Auto Parts place to look at the brake lines. The gas lines on TO 20/30's are actually a flare fitting, the sealing part is the flared end of the fuel line, and the machined cone shaped bottom in the gas bowl. The nut on the gas line doesn't actually seal anything, it just pushes down on the flared steel line to force a seal against the bottom of the gas bowl fitting. Those fittings are tough to get a good seal, even if the nut threads-in, it doesn't insure a leak free fit if the fuel line isn't straight and centered going into the fitting. I have pretty good luck jiggling the fuel line while tightening down the nut to center and line-up the flared end in the fitting so it seals-up good.

Maybe your '35 is the same sort of thing.

Thanks for the reply. The Standard 23C diesel fuel lines use ferrules and not flared tubing. The local auto shops had nothing with this thread pattern. I finally identified the threads as 1/4" ISO parallel - a European style fitting that is not very common in the states. The tube seems to be 8mm. I contacted a distributor of Swagelock and they are sending me some parts that they think will fit. I should have them in a week and will post if they work. The local MF dealer also claims they have not found anything that will fit the 23C fuel lines, so I should let them know if it works.
