My TO 20 3-point will slowly drop when the pto is not spinning the hyd pump. I am wodering if the upper cycinder needs rebuilding or is there a preassure valve that is bad. Thanks in advance.

They are not supposed to stay up when the hydraulic Pump isn't running as they are not a sealed system. If it takes 5 - 10 mins to drop it is ok even less than that will still be ok it's when it drops so fast that the pump cant pump enough oil to keep up with the leak that is causing it to drop.

The hydraulics were not designed to hold weight for an extended period. They have metal rings in the piston and naturally bleed down. The original Fergy manual says the lift should hold a 2 bottom plow off the ground for 15 minutes without the PTO running. Unless yours is a lot worse than that... it's fine.

This just might be normal. I haven't seen one yet that will hold the pressure for long without the hydraulic pump running. I have a TE20, and if I put my wife in the carry-all box in the back, it drops pretty fast when I depress the clutch. ( hope she doesn't see this)

For your own health you better say the hydraulics stay up all day when the wife is in the box :-).


Seriously, if the lift stays up for over a minute then there is not enough leakage to worry about.
