Giant -- First let me say that I'm less knowledgeable about Fergusons but I can hold my own with Fords. I can't seem to enlarge your photos, but here's what I see: 1. Overall styling points to a 9N or 2N Ford painted up to look like an 8N, but it definitely is NOT 8N. 2. Step - starter button mounted ahead of the shifter is a definite Ford feature, TO-20 and TO-30 (maybe others) had the start switch built right into the transmission and worked like another gear position. 3. Your rear wheels have a small radius of rivets near the center of the axle but the wheel itself bolts on outside the brake drum radius. This is a definite late 9N or 2N feature. Early 9Ns may be seen like this due to replacement of the original smooth axle hubs. 8Ns had more modern lug nuts in a pattern very near the brake drums with a conventional wheel rim. As far as I know the TO-20s were just like the 8Ns in this respect. 4. It looks like a flathead 4 engine. If so it's definitely not Ferguson as Ferguson used OHV Continentals. 5. Spin on oil filter is NOT supposed to be there ... er.... not original, I mean, but it's position also indicates a 119 cid Ford flathead 4. 6. Can't tell of course, but if your transmission is a three speed that's consistent with the 2N or 9N. I would recommend locating the flat spot on the very top of the engine block right below the head gasket and behind where the original oil filter canister would have been -- Ford stamped their SNs here, but very lightly. As you may know, all 2Ns carried 9N serial numbers, just later series of them. SN ranges can be found on the Ford N section of this board. Hope this helps, Pete P. Harborcreek, Penna.
