TO 35 Clutch Problem - Long Post

Tractor belongs to a neighbor. Problem was the pedal was on the floorboard & still would not release engine clutch, let alone the pto clutch. He said that the pto clutch never has disengaged and he's owned it for 4 -5 years. Split tractor to find the clutch fingers worn off. The ears(tabs)on TOB carrier that the return springs fasten to were worn off too, springs hanging on front of trans. I almost forgot, clutch fork was worn out also. TOB carrier was binding on the bearing/seal holder. Repaired brg. holder as well as fork and TOB works fine now. Had P/P and disc rebuilt, new pilot brg. & TOB. After installing and adjusting the pedal seemed very hard. I put some more pressure on pedal (mistake) and the tapered screw that threads thru fork and into the pedal shaft sheared off. Someone supposedly replaced clutch in the last 7 - 10 years. The ser# on tractor is 155455. Engine ser.# Z134 -615970. The only numbers I could find on P/P is "Spicer Dual Drive Clutch 254050". Also, I ordered a clutch kit for a later ser. no. TO - 35 , by mistake, from Tisco and it was nothing like the one on this tractor. The clutches were supposedly changed at #177395 if I understand correctly, but the P/P shows to be the same with different discs. Is it possible that someone installed the wrong P/P ? I hope some of you guys can help, need to get this thing going. Thanks !

For all the thrust bearing and carrier and fingers to be worn like that it has been running without any pedal clearance for some time. If the pedal is hard to press like that it usually means that there is either incorrect adjustment of the clutch itself or wear in the components. Was the PTO clutch clearance correct and not too small as that would give the same impression you got. regarding the P/P anything can have happened in the last 40 years and most likely someone has got it wrong. You say that you had the P/P rebuilt I don't think everything that needed to be changed was changed, the movement on these P/P is so small that any wear and you lose a lot of the movement so it wont free.
