TO35 oil filter spring?

Was told that if there wasnt a spring it wouldnt filter. Could smeone explain where this filter would be and what it looks like. Can it be bought?

There should be a spring pushing up at a plate at the bottom of the filter element, the spring pushes the filter and the plate up to the filter head and forms a seal, the plate forms a seal at the bottom end of the filter element, with both ends sealed like this any oil now has to pass through the filter element and doing this it gets filtered, if the filter gets blocked because it has not been changed often enough the relief valve will open and allow unfiltered oil through again.

Check with MF dealer. If you can get your hands on someone's spring you can probably find a duplicate at a machine shop, if the dealer doesn't have one. The spring keeps tension on the cartridge inside the housing.
