I have had the timing set and have put all new plugs, new coil, new starter solenoid, and etc. I have also had the carb rebuilt. The tractor turns over fine but will not fire over. I have checked and i get a bright blue spark at the plugs and distributor. What i have noticed is that the wires on the battery post get very hot when trying to start. also the starter wire gets very hot. what would be causing this and could this be the answer to my starting problems.

The wires getting real hot are a sign of high resistance. What is your battery voltage and what size are your starter wires? You should have as large of a starter wire as possible. Make sure that the connections are clean and tight and the you don't have a damaged wire. Certainly grinding away at the starter can cause the temperaure of the starter to go up but it shouldn't cause the wires to overheat unless the resitance is too high( i.e a bad connection, too small a battery cable, or damaged cable).

I think toolman is probably right about why your cables are hot. They most likely are hot because you are grinding the starter so much. If you truly are getting blue spark at the plugs, it almost has to be a fuel problem. Remove the air intake and spray some starter fluid in the carb intake and see if it fires. If so, you have a fuel blockage. Another way to check is pull a plug after trying to start it and see if any fuel is on the plug.

don,t think hot wires are your problem, they,ll get hot because your drawing lots of current through them trying to start your tractor, normally a coulpe of cranks and it fires.is it getting gas?are the wires all where they are supposed to be, coil wires hooked right etc.make sure your getting gas.

yes i am getting plenty of gas flow thru the carb. the tractor was running fine but after about 12 hours of use it does the same thing.

Another thread on this forum on some other topic, folks indicated that if the carb float and valve aren't adjusted right or the float is bad, the carb will flood while the tractor sits and cause hard starting after it sits a while. I can't tell if this is your situation but thought I'd bring it up.
