I called a place to buy a subsoiler, and the guy told me that my TO-30 did not have the muscle to handle a subsoiler. Can anyone substantiate or disprove this claim?
thanks
Paul

Paul, I have one of those single chisel 3Pt subsoilers like they sell at TSC, and other places. I think it has a 3" wide chisel, goes down maybe ~2'. My TO-20 pulls that thing EASILY down as deep as it will go. When I first got the subsoiler, my garden was already in, I decided to "test" it for a few feet in the back of the yard. I was having so much fun I ended-up ripping a row a hundred feet long before paused long enough to look back at the mess I was making in my yard..... I decided to move out to the horse pasture to finish "testing" my subsoiler... much to my wife's disagreement,,, grin!! I've found that subsoiler is great for ripping the heck out of wild grape vine roots, multiflora blackberry crowns, and I have also ripped a bunch of old sapling stumps, maybe 3-4 " diameter right out of the ground so I could burn them. I love my subsoiler... might even sell my plow. My tires are filled, that might have helped me a little, but even if yours aren't you shouldn't have any trouble with a TO-30. The subsoiler top link applies downward pressure on the axle, just like a plow, to improve traction, and activates the Draft system to raise it slightly if too much draft is being applied to your TO.

George,
I'm sold!
I can't wait to tear it up.
I don't have any grape vines, or rocks, but I do have Palmettos: The Scurge of Florida.

I May even try to crack a little hardpan while I'm at it.

thanks
Paul

Paul, it will handle it no problem, even without ballasted tyres. If you do have any problems with the hydraulics wanting to lift all the time then just tighten the Control Spring half a turn. Make sure that you use category 1 settings for the top link, that is the top link pin centre should be 18-1/2" above the lower link pins.
