TO-20 axle carrier assembly

I had a machine shop fabricate a new front axle bushing and refurbish the pivot pin to spec. When I installed the axle in the carrier assembly, I noticed that the rear support hole was worn pretty badly. The front hole wasn't too bad. I am thinking about having the machine shop bore the two holes and fabricate two bushings. The carrier doesn't look as though bushings were ever a part of the assmbly and the parts manual doesn't show any. Has anybody ever tried this before? Does anyone know what the original hole diameter was? Since the pin is 1.75 dia, I figure the holes were also but I need to check.

Dan - the bushing size is 1-49/64 (inside) x 1-29/32 (outside). I had a machine shop do for me just what you are suggesting. It worked out just fine.

Dan, if I follow your question you are wanting the hole size in the carrier that the pivot pin rests in, correct? If that is so, than the pivot pin dimension plus a smidge (sae not metric) would be correct. Seriously, I am presuming 2 0r 3 thou over would be all that is needed. The pin justs rests in the carrier, no movement is desired. As I wrote in my previous reply I welded the pin from ford in to prevent any future movement. I would think a good fit, not an "as new" fit would be more than enough. questions, e-mail. good luck Mike
