Hi guys, can someone give me the correct Australian oil type for a TEA20 for engine and gearbox/diff/hydraulics. The MF dealer said to use MF Universal but i read somewhere that it has to be GL1 type and the above is GL3 Thanks in advance

Shell Dentax is what you need, this is to GL1 spec. Most other suppliers will have something that is equivalent to this oil. The oil should be changed every 12 months as it deteriorates over a period of time like cooking oil does and it forms a sludge in the bottom. Newer oils may be able to run longer between changes but no more than 18 months I would think. This is SAE50 and is really too heavy for the engine unless you are in a very hot climate or if the engine is worn and maybe using some oil.

In that case it would be Shell Dentax 90 for our Australian friends, as there are several types of Dentax both synthetic and mineral oils for different use.

This is so confusing, sorry, because the different brands have different names on oils from country to country. So, the same oil has different names.

But, in Australia you shall use Shell Rimula D or Shell Rimula M or the equivalent other brand.

You must not think I will recommend Shell oils in favours of others... I am using it for myself, and therefor I know them best... but use any brand... what I mean is that you shall find the right type of oil... not the right brand, because that is like discussing one mans wife compared to the other mans wife.

By the way, as an advice, the best thing is to buy oil in 20 liter cans at a place where they have tractors or trucks... not at a petrol / gas station. Much cheaper that way.

If you read about the Rimula D and M, you will see that both are recommended for a mixed fleet of diesel and petrol engines.

Marlowe answered your question regarding gearbox and diff. As to engine, the other part of your question, the archives are full of various opinions. Many people say if your engine has not been rebuilt, use a non detergent oil, the theory being that it will not loosen carbon, etc., and thus not create a problem. If it has been rebuilt go with a modern detergent of proper weight depending on your climate. Many purists say stay with single weight (30 wt for warmer and 20 wt for colder seasons), but others say just use modern multiwt oil like 10-30 if it doesn't burn any oil, or maybe 20-50 if it uses some oil. Lots of opinions on that. Personally, I use Shell Rotella 15-40 in all mine.

gearbox/diff/hyd/ is GL1 minneral oil your dealer is wrong like most are get GL1
