TO-35 Original colors

I am starting a restore on a 1955 TO-35 Serial#141010. The original paint looks to be yellow with the number 300 on the rear housing. Is the yellow original? What does the number 300 refer too?

My 1955 TO35 sn 146018 is metalic green cast and grey tin. I also have a color picture of a factory sales brochure for 1955 that shows the same. Also the rear wheel rim only is silver metalic.Front wheel and rim and rear wheel center are grey.Hope this helps..... ..... ..RRF

TO/MF-35s were often painted orange or yellow as custom colors when the units were ordered for a highway department or municipal government, etc. Rick is right, you should check undernearth. But if you find red primer undernearth, perhaps yours is an original color.

1954 to end of 1955 Serial# 140,001 to 167,156 were Gray sheet metal w/G cast.
1956 to end of 1957 Serial# 167,157 to 178,215 were Beige sheet metal w/Vlint gray cast.
1958 to merge with Massey Sereal#178,216 to 211,071 were Red sheet metal w/Flint gray cast.

The yellow COULD be that it was painted for highway work. Scratch underneath the yellow in a hard-to-reach (i.e., hard to strip) place to see if another color is underneath.
