Yesterday I fixed the leaky pto-shaft, replaced the oil seal and gasket and no more oil leaking from that part. Now I have a new oil problem, oil is leaking from "the rear axle" not the axle itself but in that area, se picture, two leaking places. I noticed that the bolt on the right (leaking) does spin around but on the left (not leaking) does not spin. I realy hope someone can give me an advice what to do. The oil leaking causes a lot of dirt on my new washed beautiful fergy. :-)

Not sure on the Ferguson tractors but on the Ford N tractors it is necessary to pull the left side axle and trumpet housing in order to gain access to the nut that holds the lower link shaft secure.
The nut is normally a slotted/castlelated nut with a cotter pin to lock it.

It is best to replace the shaft if it is worn from being run loose too long. Use a good silicone glue around the shaft to make certain it doesn't leak even it it is tight because lots of times the hole will be wallowed out and even a new pin will not seal although it may stay tight. Be sure to re tighten the one that is not loose too while you have the axle housing out.

Be careful not to let the differential ring gear and carrier fall out and hurt you when you pull the axle off. Sometimes it is necessary to take the carrier off to get to the right side nut easier while the axle is off the left side.

Don't take the right side axle off because you won't be able to pull the ring gear and carrier out of the way from that side.

Hi Harald, you have to remove the trumpet housing to tighten that pin, there is a nut on the inside. I will email a picture of it to you, I do have your email address. Check you mail box please.

Hi John
My inbox had reached it's limit because of spam mail, please try again now. I asume removing the trumpet housing is a big operation - what about try to fasten the nut after removing the pto shaft as danny says or is this just a waste of time.

My fergy is a TEA2085 1951 #187248

Harald

Is the bolt where your leak is, the bolt that holds the lower arms of your three point hitch? If so my dad tighten his by putting the arm back on and hitching up to a heavy load. With the load lifted. He could tighten the bolt. The load kept the bolt from turning. Good luck

Harald
i know i was able to get at the right side nut inside the trumpet with a socket,by removing the pto shaft ,i think i wasnt able to get at the left one because of the gears ,otherwise the right way to do it is split the trumpet ,too bad you didnt know about the leak when the pto and all the fluid was out let us know how you do ,its good when someone lets us know how they solved the problem
good luck Danny

Thanks danny.
Do you know if it's wrong if the bolt spin around, should it be fasten? anyway it is also leaking nearby so maybe there are some gasket to replace?

Regarding the pto, i dropped the front wheels about 14 inches lower than the rear ones, it saved me from drain the oil.

the bolt should definately be tight, thats probably where yor leak is from ,on the TO30 i know it has only a washer and nut back there no seal of any kind, depends what kind of tractor you have in Norway,John UK may help us out here and take his word as gospel on these fergusons,
by the way the manual calls this part a LOWER LINK SHAFT ,
