TO2o with no spark I have move the distributer, tried the static timing method also. I just got it and it wasn"t running. I have no Idea what voltage is supposed to be going through everything because I normaly work on N tractors. IT had a wire coming off the resister (Caramic)and it had 12 volts going to the coil. The NEG. side also tested 12 volts. It had no condenser on it. I took a coil and condenser off A TO30 and put them on it and it then had 6 volts at the coil and dist side. But still has no spark. checked the rubber washers were the bolt goes through the dist to attach to the spring and condenser on the coils and it is good. Any ideas why I have no spark or does anybody know were I can get it? Thanks

I don't understand how changing the coil and putting in a condensor dropped the coil voltage from 12 V to 6 V! Just doen't make sense unless you put a resistor between the key switch and the coil and the points were closed.

Is the brass contact on the rotor contacting the button on the distributor cap? Are the points opening and closing like they should? Are the points gapped correctly? Are the contacts in the distributor cap corroded? Is the coil good? Is the secondary wiring ( between the distributor and the coil and between the distributor and the spark plugs) good? Systematically check the items out and let us know what the answers are to these questions and we should be able to help you.

You are absolutly right. It did not change the volts by changing the coil. After I checked it the second time after changing the coil I had rotated the engine and the points had closed. Thats why the volts. were different. I did find the problem though, I should have done the obvious first. Anyway rember I said the condenser was missing when I got it? well I guess they had worked on the points also and the copper strap that runs with the stainless strip from the point to the coil contact in the dis. was not on it. I put another set of points with the copper and The plugs would light up the room. Put it back together and and it turned over once and cranked right up. first time it has ran in over a year. The reason I didn't check the points in the first place is they looked brand new, but I guess they broke the copper strip off and I didn't notice it.

Glad you found the problem and it was so simple to fix. It also sounds like you have a ballast resistor in the primary circuit because if you didn't, you'd have had 12 V at the coil instead of 6V. Thanks for coming back and telling us what you found. We all learn from these experiences.
