I just purchesed a T30 Ferggie. I love it. The problem is I only recieved the shop manual for it but not the operation manual. I need to know what weight oil to use in the engine and how much. I also see that there is water mixed in with the oil dripping out of PTO. The shifter boot was letting it in. I need to know what weight oil to use and how much to put in. Any help would be appreciated.

I presume you are tlking about a TO-30 when you say T30. You'll get a whole bunch of different opinions about what engine oil to use. The owners manual calls for 30W non-detergent or 30W detergent oil. I personally use 10W40 to the lastest API automobile rating (API K,L or M or whatever it is). The modern oils are so much better than what was available back when this tractor was designed. The engine takes 6 quarts with a filter change. The transmission/hydraulic system takes a GL1 mineral oil, 80W for winter and 90W for summer. Do a search in the archives of this forum. Jeff,OH has a detailed procedure to change the trans/hydraulic oil and clean the sumps. As long as your PTO seal leaks, you might want to take the opportunity to fix that when you drain the oil. If your machine still has the 1-1/8" PTO shaft, this would be the ideal time to change it out to the standard 1-3/8" shaft. The entire new shaft, bearing and seal replacement costs around $100 US and you just remove the old shaft assembly and put in the new one.
Hope this helps you.

I just bought ten gallons of the GL-1 from Napa. The counter guys at my rinky-dink town couldn't find it in their catalogs, but the part number listed here in the archives, NHF65-205, did the trick. It's now $41 + some change for 5 gallons.

Hilarious. I hope I got *better* GL-1 than you did. (Shakes head) Where are you? Maybe I can ask them about it when I pick it up Monday.

I'm on Whidbey Island in Washington State--about as far from Tampa as you can get in the continental US. Maybe it's the 30-minute ferry ride from the mainland which doubles the price? (Kidding.)

I'm not too worried about it, I'll just do a bit more price-checking next time I buy. Thanks for the offer, though.
