I need to completely re-wire my 40. What guage wire for lights, safety connections to the trans, gen to voltage reg, etc. Is the sheathing material that was originally used on the tractor still available?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Max, I forgot to suggest you buy the whole kit and kaboodle from a firm specializing in producing wiring assys for antique tractors. Brillman is one but I have had good experience with Agri-Services,phone 716-937-6618. The latter is a little cheaper than Brillman last time I looked, but has been a while. Good luck.

Max, the original type wiring is available from the Brillman Company, 1-888-Brillman(274-5562), call and ask for catalog or see www.brillman.com I recently used their products and completely rewired my TO-30 and I think they sell quality stuff. I can't suggest the wire size since my 30 is 6v and yours is a 12v system but perhaps other readers will. I used #12 for heavy amp circuits and #14 for the other circuits. Starter and batt cables were #2, so maybe half that for the 12v system. Light wiring could be #14 I would think for the 12v system. Some of the wire harness makers use #12 for main runs and #14 for some branch runs for light harnesses
