I recently purchased a '51 TO-30 and found that the PTO engagement lever is stuck in the ON position. I can't disengage the PTO. Does anyone know how to fix this? Also, I can't seem to get the lift to hold position when using the bush hog. Thanks!

Mike,
The way your Fergie is at the present, the bushog will never stay where you put it. The Fergie only has draft control, not position control. You need Zane Sherman's invention called the ZaneThang. I have one on my TO-20, and it's great. You can find out more about it at www.zanethang.com. He's a real nice fellow and will help you any way he can. He's a legend on the N board.

The handle on the side has an arm that extends out and fits in a slot in the bar that comes from the engagement collar for the PTO gear. The side plate may have been taken off and not installed properly so that the arm is not resting in the slot on the bar. If that is so, then the lever is either just flopping around uselessly or it is blocked from moving because it is against the end of the bar. Drain the oil down in the axle until the side plate with the lever on it can be taken off. Remove it and look inside for the bar from the PTO engagement collar. Grab it and pull back and forth on it. It should move and it should engage (spin the PTO shaft a little if not) the gear. Also, you should see where the lever arm engages in the slot on the bar. Of course problems can always arise, like broken or bent parts, but hopefully its just a problem of incorrect installation. Keep us posted. Good luck.
