I have been looking for a tractor to use on my property and have been offered a TO 30 from a friend of mine who is buying a bigger tractor. The tractor will mainly be used to bush hog 4 acres of pasture and scrape down my driveway. The tractor comes with a set of harrows, a scrape blade and possibably a boom pole The tracror runs good and the tires, sheet metal are in good shape also. He wants $ 1500 for the above tractor. Does this sound like a good deal? It does to me, but I would like to hear form those who know more about these tractors than I do. Also what kind of performance should I expect for using a 5 ft. bushhog behind this tractor. Thanks in advance for any information.

That's what I paid for mine last year, and I had to flush the Hydralics when I got it. Mine only came with a scrape blade, which I have used plenty. I also regularly run a 6 foot finishing mower on it. I have also run a disk harrow, a 4 ft roto-tiller, and a large drag chain. No regrets thus far.

Sounds like a good deal at that price in that conditiion. It will handle a 5 ft brushhog just fine. You will need a overriding clutch PTO adapter. Then the flywheel action of the mower won"t push you through a fence, into a ditch or tree. They can be dangerous to your health with an inexperence operator with out a overriding clutch. Those blades get going, they can push the tractor quite a ways, especially if headed down hill.

the 5 footer will work just fine behind your TO-30. Make sure you get an over running coupler (ORC)to put between the Tractor PTO shaft and the driven shaft on the mower. You need that since due to the design of the transmission system, the rotating inertia of the mower can push the tractor, even when you disengage the clutch.

That's a good price - if the engine is sound. Read the article on the home page about buying a tractor, it has many good tips. Look for bolt ends on both sides of the engine between the cylinders, if you find any, this is because the block cracked and has been "pinned" to close the cracks and hold the block together.
