What is Engine Horsepower PTO HP on 1948 TO 20

I am wanting to buy a finish mower for my TO 20. I need to know the Engine HP and PTO HP. To help determine what size mower to buy. I would like to buy a 90" model. Any thoughts on a good Finish mower? I hear alot about Woods & Landpride. Which is better? Any recomendations? Thanks in advance.

I'm with gshadel... I think the 90 would be way too much. I am running a 72-inch finish mower on mine weekly. Works just great! However they absolutely will not do tall grass. Running this 72 feels like I am about at the limit of what I would try to run on it. Mine is a Beefco, which I got for free from a freind. This one has a gearbox that drives the blades with belts. I understand that they now make the lower cost versions of those marketed by John Deere. But this one only cost me lots of elbow grease some welding repairs and new blades, but it mows like a dream. No problem getting parts from the JD dealer. My lawn looks like a golf green. I too was thinking of buying a new or used one before this. I saw a few used ones, but most folks sold them with tractors, not alone. So I started pricing new ones and instead got this one free. Still cost me about $100, to bring it on line again... no regrets.

Indy... 90" is going to be more that your -20 can handle unless your doing really light mowing. Most guys I talk to pull 60" finish mowers, can probably get by with a 72" mower. Either Woods or Lands would be good. Check out your local tractor sales, might get a good deal on a lightly used deck. There are some made overseas units out there, can be hard to get parts for them. You can go with a belly mower, or 3 pt. hitch mower. I have a 5' flail mower on my -20 that I love for cutting grass. Does as good, maybe better job than a finsh mower, doesn't throw sticks etc, mulches as it goes, great in my vineyard and apple orchard.

Nebraska Tractor tests of the Ferguson tractor.

Model/test date CID/Drawbarhp/Belthp/Weight/pull TE20/392/April48/120 /16.35 /24.02 /2760 /1666 The TE20 and the TO20 used the same engine in what was the same basic tractor, the PTO horsepower would be in the region of 22hp approx.

Indy,

I have a TO-30, and I use a 5' (60") mower. I wouldn't want to have a wider one for two reasons.

1. With the 5' mower, I know if I can get the tractor between two trees, I can mow between then. The 5' mower follows right behind the rears without protruding.

2. At times, if I let the grass get a little out of hand, the tractor works much harder. Although these old tractors are great workhorses, I still try to listen and feel how my tractor is laboring. I don't like to put it under too much stress needlessly.
