Finally went to work. After running a bush hog for about an hour, she sputtered and quit. Fuel was driping fast from the carb (TSX-361). Shut off fuel line and let it cool, still does it. Gave it the old tap-tap, in case a stuck float needle valve, nope. I'm assuming either the float valve is stuck open (varnish or contamination), or the float has a leak and doesn't (float), or otherwise broken. My new shop manual came (ordered here) and I like the diagnostic of putting a clear tube connected to the drain plug to test the actual float chamber fuel height. slick!

not quite what I expected... Last rebuilder put carb together with silicone glue, globs of which bead up inside and after many years had become mushy. Local NAPA store had the carb kit in stock.

I used to rebuild '50s British motorcycles. somehow, I feel right at home with the Ferguson. :)
