Replacing the streering arm seals

Hi
I have a TEA20-85,1951-model and the steering arm seals are leaking. Can someone give advice about what to do. Is it much job to fix it and is there some replacement type to buy somewhere at the internet?

I drilled into the bushings from the outside of the steering box, installed grease fittings to get grease to the bushings.
Then, drilled through one of the arms to get grease to the inner bushing.
Grease the heck out of the gears with good quality grease, good to go!
I can"t take credit for this idea as I saw it from another ferg owner, but it wasn"t much work to get a well lubed, non-leaking steering box.
Seal replacement is a must however!!

Hi Harald,
There are two approaches. You will see that there is a bump right on the corner of the steering arm, and the seal will not go over this, so you can either grind off the bump, or else take the steering arms out.
To remove the steering arms, you have to take the steering box off the tractor, turn the assembly upside down so it is standing on the steering wheel, and work at it from the bottom.
There is a web page about this; have a look.
You can buy generic seals that fit, but don't look original, at a place that sells bearings and seals. The original type is no longer available.

thanks Jim for your information. I wounder if there is "a must" to have oil in the steering box, any opinion about that?

There is no particular requirement to have oil in the box as long as there is lubrication, it has slow moving parts so it isn't critical. You can use grease in it if you wish just add a little oil to make it more fluid and then there will be no cavities formed in the grease in colder weather. You can get new seals they are advertised by quite a few suppliers.

a few years back i filled, my TO30 steering box with grease and it has been fine through the hardest winter weather and no more leaks ,i just drilled a grease fitting into the fill plug in case i want to add some ever,i got this tip from Zane Sherman over in the 8N and 9N site and he dosent give out any bad information,i was surprised at how much grease it took however ,let us know how you do
