Metal parts found in oil pan shaped like an arrow

Pulled down the oil pan on my 54 to-30 to see if it required cleaning and I found 3 pieces of metal shaped like an arrow with raised sides? I did not finde any ball bearings from the governor? My gov is not working so I would guess that these are gov parts any ideas out there of what these could be from?

I had a similar problem and mine was shredded governor parts. Does anyone know where I can get a used or replacement governor/

DBrown: Check the tractor parts at the left of this page. Alpha has two different govenors listed: P/N 529737M1 and 529737M91. Both are Bearing type units for T0-30 and others. Cost about $65.00 plus shipping. Look under Massey Ferguson and P/N.

Fergieboy: I used a 2X4 (wood) between floor jack and the Bell Housing to support the engine while removing front axel bolts. Just took the weight off the axel and removed bolts, jacked up the engine, worked on the governor and I also removed, cleaned and replaced the cam shaft nut using Lock-tite to secure it. Then, I just eased the jack down and was able to fit the axel bolts with no trouble.

What part number governor was usad on a 1954 to-30 ferguson tractor?

Fergieboy: I don't have a parts book for the TO-30. I have a TO-20. However, Im sure the guys at Alpha can help you. I called them on some other parts and they were very helpful. I do see that the P/N 529737M91 is a direct replacement and update for P/N 1002849M91. It is listed for the TO-30, T0-35 and later models, but not for the TO-20. So, does that cover the '54 TO-30? I don't know and shouldn't hassard a guess. It would be enough to lead me to call Alpha. Or maybe John in the UK could confirm. Good Luck.

either type should fit and be ok for you, the main problem will be setting the governor linkage again once you have had it apart, but it's no big deal, just call if you need help.

The parts I found in my oil pump are governor parts, they are peices of the disc that seperate the balls.Does any one know if I should check underthe timming cover for more parts? the book said that when the timing cover is removed the front axel will be removed. where does the jack go under the oil pan, it does not seem like the pan could hold the weight?

To replace the governor you will have to check in there anyway, otherwise you can't fit the governor, no matter which type it is.

Use the jack under the clutch housing, dont use a jack with a small head or it could punch a hole through the housing, use something in between.

The parts you mean could be from the alternative type of governor that was used, this had flyweights not balls in the governor and the plate the weights fasten to can break after a lot of service and that could be the arrow like parts you found, but I would have thought that you may have found a flyweight in there as well as 4 are fitted but not all of them may have broken away. It is for a to-30 1954 would this tractor have used the flyweight type gov and not the ball type?

They were fitted to some, mostly they were the ball type. They do interchange, all the UK tractors had them in preference to the ball type.They are shown in the parts list as an option. So take your pick.
