TO-30 Steering Question

The steering on the TO-30 I bought last year is a bit loose, and I'm kinda wondering if it's about worn out.

On my MF35, I've adjusted the screws and nuts to tighten things up. But on this tractor, the head of the screw is about flush with the face of the nut.

Does this mean the steering needs rebuilt? If so, is it a particularly difficult job? Are the parts expensive?

Here's a picture of it:

Have you tried adjusting the bearing under the steering wheel, you have to remove the wheel to get at it and it does wear, the adjustment on the side only keeps the steering sectors in position onto the steering shaft pinion in the box. The top bearing will allow play in the steering but it will also allow the wheel to go up and down, if the wheel doesn't do this but you still have play, check the steering joints and the king pins.

What is that rod with the round end on it coming up from the lower left hand corner in the picture you submitted? I have a TO30 and I have never seen that rod end in that postion. I was having some problems with my steering being loose and I changed the ball joints on both ends of the drag links and that helped tighten up things up.

The lever you asked about is the shifter for the Sherman transmission.

Also to the left in the picture, you"ll see the edge of the propane regulator. So it"s kind of an unusual tractor...
