TO 30 not running right

Today while using my 1953 TO-30, the tractor began to pop back through the carburator. I pull a finishing mower to mow about 13 acres. The tractor doesn't seem to have the pulling /mowing power it once had. It seems to struggle through the grass, then die. Any ideas as to the problem?

Had the same concern with my TO-30 a few month ago , I had installed points and cond and rotor cap last fall so I knew that was not the problem checked point gap again and plugs were good, stopped at a local small engine shop to get some parts for my lawn mower and got to talking about the tractor with a few of the guys there I was telling them about loss of power they said how old are the plug wires so I purchased a new set and installed could not believe the difference in power and the ease of starting should have done it month ago just a thought clearfield

AFter checking the fuel flow, check the ignition system. You should have a nice fat bluish spark. Check the timing at idle and at speed to make sure that the advance system is working, Check the points for gap and cleanliness. With the the point rubbing block sitting on the flat of the distributor cam lobe, push radially on the distributor shaft and watch the points to see if they open or even move slightly, then your distributor shaft/bushing are worn. Make sure the firing order is correct.
Make sure the aircleaner is passing air. This is a very neglected part of the tractor and it's not uncommon for these old machines to have fifty years of crap and corruption in the air cleaners. To check it, disconnect the tube at the carb inlet and run it with the air just going directly from ambient to the carb. If you regain your power, than a good cleaning of the air cleaner is called for.

check fuel supply to include screen behind carb inlet. Might not be it but a darn good place to start.
