Slow starting...............

I got a '50 TO-20, use it everyday, runs like a champ, but, when I shut it down to do some quick hand work, then start it up again, it barely cranks over.... the alternator pretty much stays in the middle. How can I check for a charge, maybe ??

Look at the ground cable my TO-30 is grounded at a bolt that goes into the dash mine was having that same concern and one night went to move it after dark and as she was turning over I noticed a spark jump at this bolt her it was a little loose and not making a good ground and if it would not have been dark I may not have noticed took the bolt out and cleaned it good and retightened and I could tell a big diff in the way she turned over clearfield

Do as nonac99 suggested. If that does not solve your problem, check all battery connections, terminal posts etc.. If that does no good, you probably have a starter problem (dragging). Hope this helps.

If you have a voltage meter then check the voltage at the battery terminals before during and after you start the tractor. Before starting it should read rated battery voltage (12V or 6V??). While the starter is cranking, a strong battery will not drop more than a couple of volts. After the tractor starts, the battery should have a higher voltage than its' rated voltage. For example a 12v battery would read around 14 volts.
I like to do this test after I have fully charged the battery.
