Post Hole Digger Problem

I've got a new post hole digger with a 9" auger on my TO30. It goes down perfectly for about 15" then just spins. I know North Texas dirt is hard, but I can still dig deeper with an old manual phd. I've got a Zane Thang on it (which is fantastic and worth every nickle I paid for it) but I wonder if that has anything to do with it not going down. I've searched through the forums, but with no luck. Most of the posted problems seem to deal with going too deep, too fast. Any suggestions?

Your P.T.O. shaft is too long. Take off the auger and see if it will go down, if it dosn`t then take off the pto shaft if it goes down the shaft is too long and needs to be shortend.

Will your three pt. hitch arms drop all the way down under normal conditions, i.e., with no implement attached? If so, hard to imagine there is anything related to the lift that is causing it.

My bro in law used a PTO phd and had to have people pulling down on it to get it to dig due to hard ground. So he hired a guy with a Bobcat with down pressure to drill them. It worked great. So put some weight on it.

Sometimes you may have to work the phd up and down. Also check for grass or roots on the cutting edge at the point of the digger. Anyway, have fun.
