Try wrapping some string or teflon tape around it to take up slack in the threads. If it seems to work fix a little bracket behind it so if it comes out, it won't get lost. L8R----Fred

If the threads are gone to the point where you can slide the needle in and out without having to turn it I would think you are looking at replacing the carb or at least the top. It's possible you could repair the threads with something like a Heli-coil but I don't know if they come in that fine thread.
There should be a coil spring between the head of the needle and the carb. This keeps tension on the needle so it doesn't vibrate out. If this is missing then replacing it may solve your problem.
