having trouble finding drive gear and shaft for lucas starter on my dad"d te-20. a rebuilt delco starter for the to is cheaper than the te and was wondering if it will work

I have a 48 TE-20 with the Continetal engine. Starter went bad first, couldn't find parts, (this was before I had a computer to shop with. Then the clutch went. I can't rember what it had but it was an english clutch. No parts were available for it at theat time either. An oldtimer told me to get the flywheel, clutch parts and starter out of a TO-20. They bolted right in, and I can get reasonably price parts from my MF dealer, and NAPA, and others. As I sometimes spray with a electric pump sprayer, I have put on an alternator and 12 volt battery. Hope this will help somebody keep their TE running.

Parts are available for TE20 series tractors from "Sparex" and "Vapormatic" you order these through your usual tractor dealer or on this site. If you have difficulty getting hold of spares for the TE series just ask, we should be able to find them or even if they are available.

i was the one who posted awhile back about finding the company that John UK mentioned,i tried a TO starter on mine but it didnt work ,someone told me i would have to change the ring gear to get it to work,,anyway i found the part for the LUCAS starter from the name mentioned and was able to fix it myself ,cost was around $40.00 i think ,i think my starter #is 25519 if yours is the same give it a try

i called marc one and they said they don't list any parts for that starter, but if i sent them the drive they could repair it.

in the starter drive itself is a part that has a rubber type material in the interior,this rubber becomes unglued over the years and it slips when torque is applied to it,it is easy to miss and drove me crazy tiil i figured it out ,the same company has this part also and if you send them the whole starter you may save yourself some time,i didnt do it this way because being Irish means we have to do it the hard way ,one other thing ,if the battery mounting bolt on the starter is anyway worn have them replace at this time,i also did this myself and it is not fun

Yes you can use the Delco starter on TE20 but you may have to shim the starter out from the cylinder block and flywheel so the pinion won't catch when not in use. Have you tried these people for the starter gear:-

that's roughly the price i found, but the delco one for the TO is about a $100 less. that is why i am asking. thanks!
