TO-30 Throttle Lever

When throttle lever is pulled back past 3/4 (when running)it will ease back to between 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Will loosening throttle rod clamp and moving it towards plate assy. (increasing spring pressure) help ? If not, then I need suggestions ! Thanks.

I fought this same problem with my TO-30 for years till I discovered that the compensator spring was missing. Amazeing how nicely things work when you get all of the parts together.

In addition to what Ray said, I found the old rubber or cork friction disk that is in there was shot on mine and it still slipped after tightening down the spring deal. I made a new friction disk out of a piece of rubber, cleaned-up the surfaces real good, tightened-up that spring clamp deal. Works great now. I found that visegrips help hold it in place long enough to tighten down the clamp bolt.

That is the proper procedure for increasing friction. A helper is nice, the spring clamp is difficult to adjust alone because the rod will slip towards the rear of the tractor when you attempt to tighten the spring tension. Check first to see if the cork disc is still between the round steel plates. If it is missing or oil soaked you can loosen the spring clamp on the throttle rod and spread the plates apart enough to remove the bad cork. Make a new round cork gasket with the 3/8 hole in the center and split it on one side enabling you to insert the cork without disassembling anything.
