I"m not familiar with the TO-20. Is this a reliable tractor, and are parts readily available? I have an 8N and the parts are easy to get and at a reasonable price. THanks, Castorriver.

Yes. And yes. If you are looking to buy one, pay attention to the block. Sometimes they could get cracks in the block usually from being run too hot. Most modern users are aware of this and don't let this happen any more, but if you are buying one that has been sitting in a barn for years, etc., that could be the reason why it was parked. The Fergies have overhead valves, giving them very good power compared with same size Ford. But they do not have position control, like the 8N, although you can add it for less than $100 from one or two sources. The mail order houses, MF (AGCO) dealers, and even some NH dealers have parts. Also, there are several bone yards around the country that specialize in Fergie parts.

Phil, thanks for the reply. The other question would be about draft control. is that the float position that I would use with a bush hog or finish mower? When cutting grass with my 8N I use the float position (I'm not sure of the proper name for it) so the 3 pt. follows the contours of the land.

I've heard of the Zane Thang for 9N tractors; is this what I would need? Thanks, Doug.

Yes. and yes. Zane Sherman sells his position control "Zane Thang" for $90 delivered I believe. Used to be less, but shipping has gone up. I have one. I also have a "Fergie Positioner" from an Australian outfit, and that works as well, but I have not heard of them recently so I'm not sure they are selling in the states at this time. The Fergie Positioner is less obtrusive, in fact most people wouldn't notice it was on the tractor, but the Zane Thang maybe works a little better especially if your lift system is not in perfect working order in every way, although the arm on the Zane Thang can get in your way sometimes. As for finishing mowers, they usually have four wheels and don't scalp if you let them all the way down, but a bush hog definitely needs position control, as does a scraper blade, like for driveway work, etc.
