Brian; Check the battery ground strap, as per John"s instruction, and make sure your battery is installed with the POSITIVE post to GROUND!

You should be able to get the parts from this site, top of the page look for H.Ferguson and click on it, follow it from there. It should be a 6volt at that number unless someone has converted it. If the ground lead is still attached to the back of the dash panel I suggest you make a new longer one and fasten it onto one of the starter bolts The contacts should be set to .012" and the plugs should be set to.030" Simplest way of checking the coil is remove the HT lead from the top of the distributor and hold it near the cylinder block, turn the engine over and you should get a bright blue spark if everything is OK. (hold the lead with insulated pliers) make sure the fuel hasn't gone sour, if it has it wont really smell like proper gasoline more like paint thinners, if is is like this, change it. You could change the condenser in the distributor, that could be faulty. You could also check the contacts in the starter switch on top of the clutch housing as they may be burnt or dirty. Check the starter to see if the brushes are worn or dirty.Moral of the story is don't leave it outside uncovered. You can email me at :- fergusontractors at tiscali dot co uk
