TEA OIL MYSTERY???

After plowing my driveway with my 53 TEA ( front mounted truck plow) ,I put the tractor back in the garage and shortly afterwards noticed a small pool of black oil on the garage floor where the engine and tranny meet. It looks like engine oil but I change the oil in the fall and it is still golden brown in color, same goes for the tranny( TDH) fluid , newly changed in the fall. So were is this black oil coming from, any ideas???

The clutch housing is full of grease, dirt, and clutch debris. So if either your clean engine oil or your clean tranny oil leaks in there and gets flung around and mixed with the black residue already there, it will drip out the drain hole as black goo.

Hi Peter...I've worked with cars, not tractors, all of my adult life. When they get old, they tend to leak. MY PERSONAL RULE OF THUMB...as long as the puddle of oil on the ground(floor) is less than the diameter of a tea cup, feed the need. Watch the oil level and add as necessary. Remember...a little oil looks like a lot of oil when spread about the ground, or most especially on concrete. Enjoy...good luck, have fun!!

It will be engine oil, the worrying part is that it is coming out from the rear drain hole.There is one under the flywheel at the back of the engine too and it should run from there, make sure that the split pin is in the hole and that the hole is clear, if the pin is missing put one in temporarily upside down, it actually goes in from the inside to out but it means taking the engine out to do that(I don't think so...lol)Just make sure that the holes are kept clear and allow any oil to drain for now, if it get worse, then think about it more. To make sure it is engine oil just smell it. And check levels are not overfull in engine or gearbox.

peter if your talking about that little cotter key sticking out of the litte hole in the bottom of the bell housing , you may have a seal leaking and a bit of oil getting in there , running around in some dirt that has built up over the years causing the oil that leaks out to be dirty, if it isn,t alot of oil i wouldn,t worry about it because to fix the seals usually requires splitting the tractor, if your working these tractors you,ll find all kinds of things that look like they shouldn,t be but thses old girls just keep on working , check your oils and make sure they are good and have fun with them,.

I had the same thing happen to me on my 52-TEA turned out that I had over-filled my engine oil. That may be the problem. Have a look,
