Tea-20 identification

My recently aquired tea-20 has a serial # of tea39100/3 or 8 on the plate under the steering wheel a engine #of 72894e and I thought it was about a 1954 model.When I scraped the paint from under the seat to find the numbers stamped there they read.301059.Any ideas on what this number indicates? many thanks

Your tractor is, from the serial number, 1954 as you thought. The number you found, if it's cast in the housing it could be a part number but of the basic casting before machining. If the number is stamped in it would be unusual as they only do that with the French tractors. I suspect it will only be a casting number.

Thanks for your response John.
The numbers are stamped into the casting and I had been told that they indicate the build date .The thing that threw me was the 59 at the end as I thought the run of tea-20 stopped in 1956.Did any french tractors ever get to Australia?

French built tractor had a slightly different numbering system also they stopped production of the FF30GS as it was called in 1958. I checked your number on the master list and it was made between 22 & 28 May 1954 at Coventry, I can't pin it down any closer than that unfortunately, the engine is about right for that period too, but engine numbers are notoriously difficult to reconcile as they didn't use the engines in any particular order, just whatever was at the front of the pile so to speak. The prefix letters for the engine are not shown and it would be interesting to find out just what they are if you could let me know please and I will add your tractor to the master list, will you also please let me know the approximate location of where the tractor normally is kept as we keep this info too (no need for the exact location), so we can see where the most tractors are and the spread across the country.I wouldn't have thought any tractors made in France reached Australia through the normal channels as they just produced for the home market, and Coventry was supplying Australia direct with the FE35/MF35 at this time, however odd examples could have been supplied second-hand. I don't think this happened in your case though. The number stamped in the casting on the rear end is possibly a date of when it was overhauled or repaired by some company, I know this was done by some.
