TO30 Starter switch impacted by Sherman high/low s

I have a Ferguson TO30 tractor with a Sherman transmission. The original Ferguson starter switch is disconnected between the reverse rail and the actuator cam below the starter switch. A push button starter actuator has been utilized prior to my purchasing the tractor. My intentions were to take the start switch system back to the factory setup. I found a Ferguson TO30 starter switch and actuator. I removed the starter switch and steering box, here is what I found, the high/low shift lever for the Sherman operates a shaft situated behind the clutch and is directly in the way of where the actuator rod needs to be to connect to the reverse rail. Now I see why the previous owner was utilizing a manual start actuator. For a Sherman trans, does anyone know how the factory configured the link between the starter switch and the reverse rail? For liability reasons alone, I don't believe the factory would setup a tractor that could start while in gear. Thanks for your input.

Sherman Transmission was a aftermarket product saftey was not a problem issue in 1950's.
