third party image

The picture is from a link to one vintage photo (from an ebay listing) [See "Vintage Photos" in this forum for ebay link... ]

My restoration detail questions are:
1. Air intake? There is no "dash air" intake. What models did this?
2. Gear shift knob? My '54 TO-30 has this little knob. I thought that the correct one was a larger plastic knob. When is the little aluminum one correct? 3. Steering wheel. The picture shows three(?) groves on the rim (which is what I remember from yesteryear). Is this grooved steering wheel available anywhere?

Hi again Jim... This is obviously a photo of a mechanic showing how to adjust valves on a t020. Again mine looks the same except for the steering wheel. Does your wheel look this good and with grooves? Mine is a 3 spoke, but the center spokes are metal, with the outside being hard rubber or some similar material. I wonder if this photo might be of a pristine prototype or a really top of the line used for a workshop manual. Just some thoughts...Mike

Mike,

Looking closer at the steering wheel, mine would be like yours. three metal spokes to a rubber covered grip. the grip has raised ridges on the underside for grip. It is original though. Came with the tractor.

You don't know of somewhere else there are detai photos for restoration work do ya?

I have a 1950 TO20 and it has all the items listed. Still original. The manifold is like the one shown. I do have a question- can anyone tell me what the decal on the aircleaner says? I would like to make a replica. Oh and you can get the rubber gromets. I will have to get back to you with the name and address. I bought 2 sets my self.

Mike,

The man you need to email for the rubber dash bumpers is Paul Nelson in AZ. [email protected] He was charging $3 per set. For an added measure I also put a strip of automobile door edge guard on the raised edge of the dash. It fits over the lip nicely and is hiden under the hood when it's down. I hope this helps.

At least the early TO-30 's had the grooved steering wheel also. I was 9 when we got it, but that is one of the details that I remember well.. It was purchased in about February 1952.

My TO-20 has the same air intake, and shiny little knob on the shifter as in this picture. Can't help you on the grooved stearing wheel, mine is smooth... and falling apart, it is probably an aftermarket.
I forgot what the original manifold looked like. I liked it much better than the casting style on the aftermarket manifold that I installed a couple years ago.
I need to get me some of those nice little rubber bumpers around the dash that the hood rests on. Never had any on mine, I ended up gluing-on pieces of rubber hose to protect my new paint.

I just checked my '51 TO-20 and it has a small (approx 1-1/4 inch) Bakalite knob on the shifting lever, looks original. The steering wheel does not have any grooves and by the looks of it it is original with lots of cracks and checking.

That is a TO20 in the picture. The air cleaner intake in the dash came out with the TO30. I have a 1950 TO20 and my shift lever looks just like the one in the picture. I wish I could say the same for my steering wheel which is mostly wrapped electrical tape at the moment.

The TEA 2085 also had a dash breather. It was one of the changes from the TEA 2080.
