My 1950 TEA 24 developed water in the oil, on investegation found water squirting out of a 25mm dia plate between the two center head studs on the head. This plate similar to a frost plug had corroded. It apears to be made of aluminim I want to know what it is for and what it is made of.
Can i replace it with the head in place.
Can i repair it with some kind of filler

it is a plug to block the hole when they made the casting and you can block it with anything you can find, it will be OK. Most unusual to have that corrode like that but at 50 years old I suppose we can forgive it. It was made of an alloy like you thought.
