Just got the TO 30 home with the Howard in it

Well her she is not to bad for a 1954 TO 30 ser#126XXX and it had the Howard installed also. Mark H.

That's outstanding Willy!
In case I ever stumble across a Howard at an auction of junkyard... did you ned to make any drive gear mod's to install the Howard in your '30, or does it just slide right in there?
I'm guessing you had to cut a hole in the tranny housing to install the shifter... that would be a bit scary.

I bought the tractor with it in it. It is a bolt on Transmission. The only holes needed are 2 or 3 drilled and tap into the inside of the case to hold it to the inside end of the transmission. I bought the tractor so I could give my freind the total rear end assembley for his and will be parting out the rest of it including the Howard and transmission forward. I will be selling the Howard with the Transmission so it will just be a bolt in assembley with no holes needing drilled. Much easier then mocking up a stock trans mission. You can allways go back to stock and remove it later but it is nice haveing the holes drilled all ready in the housing. The shifter/handle bolts right into the inspection plate hole on the side. You can see that in the picture I posted. Mark H.

The Howard gear lever is complete with the side plate, no need to driill any side plate at all.

Yes the out side plate stays original but on the back of the Transmission Housing (inside) you need to drill a few holes and tap them for the Howard to bolt up to the housing. Mark H.

I am aware that you have to drill the housing as I have fitted many of these gearboxes in the past, it was just what you said in your earlier posting about the side plate that I was replying to.

Saw your post on a front weight for your ferguson. Here is one I made up for mine once. It bolts to the Front Axle Mount under the front end and was made out of 6 inch channel steel with 2 sections of 2" recever box steel welded to it. That way when I needed the weight I slipped in a 200 lb bumper and pined it on. If I did not need the weight I slipped in my light weight bumper instead. I made the heavy bumper (in picture) out of 6" dia solid steel and welded that to a channel that had 2 sections of box steel to slide in the the mount under the tractor. Worked great for both set ups and did not put added stress on the front axle pin being bolted to the axles that move. Mark H.

There rare so you don't see so many of them. First one I saw on a Ferguson TO 30 but several on the 8Ns. It is used to slow down the Tractor Ground Speed but keep the PTO Speed the same so you can Roto-Till with the tractor. It goes between the Transmission and the Rear Differential not like the Sherman which goes in front of the Transmission. The Sherman will slow down the tractors ground speed but at the same time it slows the PTO speed, when you roto-till you need a fast PTO for the Tines but a slow ground speed to allow the tines to break up the ground better.
