Well you got the date the casting was made,But it was made in 1948, the first tractor that year was number 20895 and they made almost 57,000 tractors that year. The problem is that you don't know when that engine was actually used, they didn't use the engines in any particular order, so it could have been fitted at any time although I wouldn't have thought it would have been hanging around too long. Just to make matters more difficult, around September 1947 they started fitting the Standard engine as well so the serial numbers were rising but with no details of the dates when the engines were fitted so you have two different models of engine with one series of serial numbers for the tractors. They were making about 600 a week at that time, so its highly likely that your tractor was made in the first month. I have just been checking the master list from the factory and it shows that your tractor has an engine numbered Z120 A600 FB27, the first tractor produced in 1948 was 20895 the next tractor we have a date recorded for was number TEA27137 on the 23rd March 1948 so you should be able to get some idea of just when it was made. I think that is a close as we can get unless someone else comes up with a serial number with a definite date.

George, Just been thinking about that number you sent just now....where did you get it from...as it could be a part number and in that case it could be a totally wrong date I have given you. Did you find that cast into the steering column mounting/ I think I have had that one before.

Looks like serial number would be about 170,400, built in 1951, if the chart on this page is close. (Note it is compiled from owner's input so there could be cases of engines having been replaced etc.)
You can also check for a date code cast into the left side of the differential housing, just ahead of the dipstick.

No dis-respect Vince, But you provided the tractor SN info and he already stated that the tractor SN plate was missing.

Are you sure it is a TE, and not a TEA or TO??? You can tell
