I can't speak to your engine, but I was told on this site that the block on my TEA 20 is cooled by a water jacket so normal paint won't burn off. I painted it and ran it without discoloration before I discovered a major cam shaft problem and stopped running the tractor. During the same time frame the paint on the new muffler changed colour so my conclusion is that with the water jacket you can use "normal" paint. Neil PS I'm still somewhat interested in sourcing a TEA 2080 engine.

Painted my tractor nearly a year ago. Used hardener in the paint. The block looks great, it really doesn't get hot enough to damage the paint except right where it meets the manifold. The manifold on the other hand will burn off the paint in no time. I recommend painting the manifold with BBQ grill paint or manifold paint.
I installed a new manifold, painted it with black manifold paint, then painted it gray with the rest of the tractor. The gray paint started turning brown/black on the manifold pretty much as soon as I fired up the engine, then started peeling off after a few run hours, leaving the black manifold paint behind... Actually looks pretty nice that way.
