MATT , I HAVE ONE OF EACH , A 59 23C TO 35 , AND A 61 MF 35 W/PERKINS , EACH HAS IT"S PLACE , THE 23C IS A GREAT TRACTOR ONCE YOU GET IT STARTED .I PLUG IT IN TO START IT , SIT ON THE GLOWS , USE A BATTERY CHARGER . THEN HAVE A CUP OF COFFEE WHILE THE SMOKE CLEARS AND IT WARMS UP . IT USES VERY LITTLE FUEL . THE PERKINS STARTS MUCH EASIER , AND STILL USES LITTLE FUEL . PARTS ARE MUCH MORE PLEANTIFUL FOR THE PERKINS . ALL IN ALL IF IT"S THE 23C"S STARTING FUSS THAT WORRIES YOU , GET A GAS TRACTOR . OTHER THAN STARTING IT THIER BOTH ABOUT EQUAL WORK TRACTORS . BUT THEN AGAIN I LIKE HAVING ODD THINGS .

Don"t know what you mean by a 23C diesel. The 3 cylinder Perkins is as dependable as you can get for the 35. Hope this helps.

"When "leyland" took over "Standard" in the late 50s early 60s they renamed the23c and called it the OE138 they also made bigger version called the OE160 this stood for Oil engine 138/160 cubic inches whereas the 23 in the Standard name ment 2300cc."
If you want a unbiased anwser: It is a tractor that will take alot of upkeep/work to keep it running good. My neighbor has/had one 1958 model, In fact I bought my TO-35 Gas off of him,(1989)and to this day we joke how bad he would like to have it back.My "35" Z-134 will out work that 35 Diesel on any chore.
