Does anyone know where I can purchase new seals for the steering arms on a 1954 TO-30? Mine are leaking a bit to much.

Just replaced the seals on my 1949 TED only to be told afterwards that I should not have botherd but to have drained the oil out and refilled the box with grease, it made sence after all the work it took to get the steering box off.

Most of the time, if the seals are leaking it's because the outer steering bushings are in need of replacement too. I rebuilt mine in my TO-30 a few years ago. I was able to get the parts at my local MF dealer. Most times the inner bushing will not need replacing.If you plan to overhaul it would be wise to have an IT shop manual.It will have good pictures and instructions to get you through it. It's not highly technical.

For what it's worth. I have a TEA 20-85 and I think the steering box is the same. I think that a Chicago Rawhide seal will so the job.. Seal #13027. You don't have to dismantle the box if you take a small grinder and grind off the protusions on the curve of the drop arms. The protusions with the center hole in for spinning in the lathe. Be careful not to shower the rest of the tractor with dust. You will be able to slide the old deal off and on without any problem. Remember a little grease on the seal to make it slide better.

These are still available from the MF dealers. Part #195 761 M1 according to my old parts book. I checked on this about a month ago as I also need new seals and they were listed as available. About $5 a piece I think.
