Hello

1st post on here ... good day to you all

Apparently i have a fergy te20 that was designed to run on TVO, whicj i understand is a mixture of 20% petrol and 80% kero.

Unfortunately this tractor has a reasonably new tank, single chamber and tap only so i can only use one fuel source.

My question is will this tractor start if i use just tvo in the tank, or does it need straight petrol to start ?

Regards Brad

You would need to make sure that it still had the special vaporiser manifold for it to run on TVO or you would get chronic oil dilution if it ran at all. You run it on petrol till the temperature is 75 deg C then change over to TVO.

Brad,

If this tractor is new to you, be sure of what you really have before mixing fuels and putting it in the tank.

A true TE-20 is a straight gasoline machine. It has a Contential Z-120 engine (you'll see Z-120 on the left side of the engine near the bottom.)

The TVO version is a TED-20.

What is your serial number? If a TVO it should be "TED-######". The serial number is on a plate near the steering wheel.

If this tractor is in the UK and it does have a Continental engine it could still run on TVO as most were converted as it was considerably cheaper. Usually, if it was converted, there was a small tank fitted alongside the battery for petrol to start it from cold, some had the proper dual main tank fitted from the TED.They also had the different manifold necessary for TVO running, usually by Vapormatic.

Thanks Jeff

Had a look, cannot find anything on the left, on the engine block on the right behind the carby is a number da12361.

The serial number on the plate in front of the steering wheel is very worn but i think the number is 300741 (bottom of plate)

Up the top left corner of the plate in largish letters is AN, just below it in small letters all i can make out is ten.

If you can help me out on that info it would be great

thanks Brad

Couple of other things, i have the original tank, came with the tractor, it has one large compartment one small compartment, two fuel caps.

The fuel bowl accepts fuel from either compartment depending on which is selected.

Aslo in front of the serial number on the plate i think i can make out TE R -

making the full serial number TE R - 300741

additionally I am in Australia, whether that makes any difference regarding models that were shipped here

G'day from the UK

Brad, TER refers to a tractor with an Industrial spec, fitted with a Standard engine designed to run on TVO. Your serial number of 300741 would put it in 1952.

You should have two tanks - to start it on petrol, then switch over to TVO when the engine is hot. You then switch over to petrol again before switching off so you can start again on petrol. Starting on TVO is very hard, if not impossible, as the kero will refuse to light from a spark!!

Therefore, your 2 tank fuel tank is the right one to use if you revert to 'as built' condition. I suspect that the previous owner probably ran it on petrol only - hence the single fuel tank.

One other thing - the small tank is 1 gallon for petrol (starting only) the large tank is for the TVO (running when hot).

For TVO recipes, look on the Friends of Ferguson website at www.fofh.co.uk

Thanks Guys

I would use the original tank, unfortunately the guy replaced it because it is buggered ..

Oh well looks like petrol only.
