Good Morning Everyone
This past Sunday I was out doing some last minute yard work and decided to use Fergy to move some stuff around. When I started her she went to a very high rpm right off. I tried to slow the speed down, but everything I did, was for not. I used her on Saturday and all was well. Can anybody explain to me why this would have happened, and any possible soulution? I havent played with the carb what so ever,YET. It almost seems like she has a mind of her own. But dont most ladys????Looking forward to hearing back on this one.
Thanks in advance
Barry

Does anyone know the firing order for my TEA (2085)? This machine does not have a dual clutch, or live PTO. 4 cyl. gas. Not sure model.

Hi Barry,

I had something remarkably similar happen to me. Either I had idle speed, or full chat - no half-way. The old girl had been running beautifully (if a little warm as my valve are a bit tight) and all of a sudden she refused to budge from idle then wallop, of we went. After gearing up to strip down the front to check for a broken governer weight, I thought I would just check the throttle linkage and found that my idle screw had wound its way out so that the (recently replaced) butterfly was wedging itself closed in the carb. Opening the throttle half-way had no effect until the the loading on the governer spring was enough to force the butterfly to open, then once open there was not enough to keep it open and it became wedged again. Solution was to tweak the idle screw in and add a little liguid locknut stuff - hope yours is as simple!

Usual cause of this is a governor weight coming adrift or breaking at one of the weight securing plates. Hope not. see if the engine is still governing watch the governor arm as it comes under load you may find that it doesnt move, if that is the case take off the front of the tractor and timing cover. If you run it there is a danger the weight will come off completely and go through the timing cover or jam in the timing chain and damage the chain wheels.

John, as this is related, kind of, to the topic - my governor does not respond to my satisfaction - the governor arm moves, but the effect is minimal - is this indicative of worn weights and hence reduced efficiency? To be honest, governors are not my 'thing'.

Thanks.

:)

Its just governor linkage settings which can be a pain. I will send you the instructions for this to your other address, do with it what you will..lol

Been through the linkage already - don't relish it again 'cos yes it's a pain. . . . . . . . . . but look forward to your comments nonetheless!!

I have already sent you the setting instructions for the governor but I would say that is what it is, it usually is just that. If you are not doing it regularly it does take some getting used to but if you do manage to follow everything it will be well worth it...Let me now how you go with it...John

Hi John
I was concerned it may be that very thing. Reason being, was I had a blown timinmg chain last fall and when it let loose it chewed up all the gears. Heck of a mess to say the least. I will look tonight when I get home, gosh I hope thats not the problem. Thanks just the same....

What happens Barry is one end of the weight becomes detached and jams under the "mushroom" and opens the throttle, but if you are really unlucky it flies off completely. Sorry about that.

Morning John
When I last had the tractor out ( Last Sunday ) I drove it 14 km's to a buddies place, we are rigging up a front plow on her. When it was in 4th gear it was fine. When I slowed down to make a turn or to cross a road, it would rev very high, almost full throttle. I thought maybe somthing was stuck. I took the throttle and went from nothing to fully opened and it would make a small diference in the rpms. Not much, but a noticible drop in rpm's But still reving at very high . Havent had a chance to get over and check out the linkage. I will look at her this weekend. Stay tuned, and again thanks ,,, Barry

Barry, it sounds like some part of the throttle linkage got jammed or stuck open - if it worries you, check it all carefully for slack joints/loose bits.

It MAY (possibly) have been an excess of fuel due to a sticking carb float valve or stuck throttle spindle - again, one of those transitory type problems so beloved of many mechanics!!!

If it happens again, switch off the ign. and then check all the throttle linkage carefully to see if you get any clues.

With a bit of luck, she just wanted to liven up your day :)

HTH

I posted to this a while back - but it has gone somewhere else - what I said was, "Thanks, I sometimes wonder if anyone reads this stuff" or words to that effect. Whatever, I am glad it has helped you.

Between us Brits we know these tractors pretty well, we may not always agree, but that is part of the fun, and we get on well, nonetheless, with no malice or harm intended.

God, have I been posting here for years????

:)

I really should get out more.

Barry,

You can solve all your problems by going to the photo adds and call the guy with the 2085 for sale and buy it. It looks like the finest 2085 out there for a resonable price.

Yeah.....

I've been hanging around Crossen to long. its rubbing off.
I didn't make it to Doug's yesterday to look at your Fergy. Ran out of time after picking up MH 44 parts at McKeown's.
Looks like you've got lots of suggestions.
Good luck..

Steve
