What is normal OP w/z120 eng? Changed oil and went from 10-15 psi to 30+. Is screen in pan necessary?

Gary:On my TE-20 the can was upside down and had been that way for a long time.(no or very little oil pressure) I turned the can over put in a new filter did not put the strainer bach in (it was in bad shape). now it has 30 lbs oil pressure and sounds much better

What the other guys said is all good. Most guys would be thrilled to have 30 PSI with 30 wt oil, there are a lot of Z-120's running around just fine with 10-15 PSI too. I recommend keeping that oil strainer, your oil pump, and some of the oil ports have pretty small clearances, if your engine drops a chunk of crud or piece of metal, it may shear the oil pump gear or plug an oil port. It's just my opinion, but I think the oil filter does a mediocre job at best, most the oil bypasses the filter anyway. I don't think it would be the end of the world to run a while without a filter, but with the strainer....never tried it though...

Viscosity of old and what you put in could be the reason too, besides the old being dirty. Higher the vis, higher the press for a given set of circumstances.

30 psi is good at engine start-up. May drop to 20 psi after warm and that is fine too.
