TO-35 hydraulic problems.

I have a well used 1955 TO-35. As long as I can remember the lift would settle down with or without an implement when you shut it off. Today, we bought a two-bottom plow from a neighbor and drove the tractor 2 mile to his house to get the plow. On the way back, with the plow on the lift, the plow would slowly lower to the ground, while we were traveling down the road. We would have to pull over, push the lift lever all the way down for a minute and then the tract would pick the plow up fine again. This happened about six or seven times on the way back. I darined the transmission, figuring the fluid needed to be changed. On the rear magnetic plug, there was what appears to be a roller out of a small neddle bearing. I know this can't be good. Are all these problems related? What am I looking at to repair this. I have restored/repaired some small Farmalls before but I have never been in to a Ferguson System before. I have an IT manual for the tractor. I'm thinking I need to look at the lift pistion and the pump? Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like a bearing has broken up but doesnt normally give problems unless the whole thing has broken up and passed through the pump a few times. It is more likely to be the pump than the hydraulic cylinder.You need to check the amount of end float in the Control spring where the top link attaches to, there should be NO end float in this, adjust if needed so you JUST take the float out. I have a "how-to" check sheet for this system if you need it and I have another one for how to operate the system correctly mail me at fergusontractors at hotmail dot com letting me know what you need.
