My lift work great EXCEPT it will not hold a consistent level. When bushhogging, it will randomly lift a full foot off the ground. If I lower it back to a good highth, it will later sink into the dirt.... I changed the 90 weight oil twice, with no improvement. Can anyone help.

Check in the archives this set-up instructions from Marlowe has been explained several times in the last months. I have a ferguson positioner on my to-20. It works great. A position control will make your life easier.

What Marlowe and gshadel tells you is correct, just one thing you can do to make sure about your tractor is lift the implement off the floor and check if there is any end play in the big spring under the seat, you should be just able to turn it, if there is end play you need to adjust it, if the adjustment is ok, nothing more you can do. (If the spring has end play the hydraulic system can behave erratically) Also check that the implement will only start lowering when the lever is 2 1/2" from the top of the quadrant. Again this can play tricks on you. If you need help with adjusting all this email me at fergusontractors at hotmail dot com and I will send the instructions.

Mickey, there is nothing wrong with your lift, stop changing the oil!

The hitch on these old Fergys is a "draft control" hitch, it was intended to lift an implement up, or set it down, not hold a set position.
I see Marlowe just left a response - do what he says to set-up your hog. I adjusted my hog according to his instructions this Spring... it was like getting a new tractor. I took the stay chains off my hog and never looked back. As for a position control linkage, it is a simple linkage that gives you position (height) control on your lift - so the lift will stay exactly where you set it... comes in real handy if you are using a scraper blade, bucket, and other implements. They can be made or bought. There are a couple guys on this forum that have plans for a make-it-yourself position controller. There are also some pictures of position controllers in the "galleries" on the left side of this web page. I have a position controller called "The Zane Thang" on my TO-20, I got it back in 1999. It still works great, I attached this link below so you can check it out. Also, go to the top of the page to "Archives",and do a search for position controllers.... you will get a ton of hits of past discussions on controllers.
