TE20 distributor

A friend has a TE20 with the continental eng. It has dist. problems. If you reset or replace the points it runs fine for a while. Evevntually it burns the points up ? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Dean... Not knowing what voltage hampers me a little, but I would check to see if there's a resistor between the coil and the distributor. If there's no resistor, you need one, or an internally resistor coil. A cheap resistor is a quick fix, and one from an early Datsun or Mazda will fit the bil. Good luck, have fun!!

Usual reason for points burning is a duff Condenser, just change it...Condenser capacity should be 0.2 microfarad

If distributor has excess wobble in shaft, check at Motion Industries for this a sealed bearing part number RLS42RSJ. This will take care of the upper bearing, I am now in process of hunting down a lower spindle bushing. In fact waiting on temperature to warm up some and going outside to dismantle distributor to take measurements and order a flanged oilite bushing. The lower bushing bore in the distributor will probably hold a 1 inch long or more bushing and this will take care of any shaft wear of original short length bushing, also will try to find proper flange thickness to take up in end play between shaft and driven bottom gear. Motion Industries and Maryland Metrics have selection charts online to find proper "oilite bearings" for this project.

Check for excessive wobble in distributor shaft, a bad condenser, also is this tractor using 6 volt system or 12 volt?
